I had the utmost pleasure designing theWintergreen Crochet Baby Blanket. It is such a beautiful blanket that is suitable for both boys and girls.

Designing crochet blankets have not been one of my favourites things to crochet- infact, the first time I made a blanket it was a blunder. You can check that out with the Diagonals Afghan.
Then I went on to design the Fidget Blanket, Simple Waves Baby Blanket and C2C Bunny Blanket.
I have always had many ideas in my head for blankets but felt they were time consuming and just repetitive, but I realise that the repetitive motion is actually calming- for me at least. And as for being time comsuming, I really did not realise the stitching was flying off my hook till it got completed.
Designing the Wintergreen Crochet Blanket was largely inspired by the yarn. I wanted to create something simple but lovely. It helps that the colours of the yarn is perfect for both boys and girls, so choosing a stitch pattern was no struggle. Infact, as soon as I got the yarns, I knew how I wanted to combine them.
The Wintergreen baby blanket is suitable to use in a crib or stroller. Due to the combination of short and tall stitches, it is highly recommended that you block this blanket so that you get the right dimensions.
Red Heart Baby Soft Steps is such a cool baby yarn. It definitely goes by its description- it is ‘oh so deliciously soft’ and smooth too. It is a worsted weight Aran yarn and comes in Solids and Prints.
It is 100% acrylic, packed in 5oz/100gr balls. The solid colours have a measurement of 256yds/234m, while the print colours have 204yds/187m.
You may find some knots as you crochet, which I would advice you unravel before continuuing your work. The yarn results in a stretchy piece, so for this pattern it is highly recommended that you block your blanket- twice if need be to get the best dimensions.
If you would like to make a bigger blanket, make a longer foundation chain or stitch. It should be an even number so that the crossed SCs can be completed in the last stitch of the row.
after blocking- 35” tall/29”wide
after blocking- 20 SC across/16 rows= 4”

Love the colors. I've been looking for something different to make for a friend's baby due early 2020. This is just what I need because I've never seen a baby blanket like this, which means she won't either. Thank you!!
