This Ethnic Girl Ear warmer is inspired by the native indian Warrior Head dress. I was fascinated with their boldness and vibrance and also what they symbolised. According to Indians.org, “only the most brave and powerful of the tribe wore headdresses”. That’s why I said this design is for the daring. If you’re not scared of colour or standing out from the ‘pack’ then this is for you.
Some of the motifs were designed in vibrant colours, while some came in simpler less intense motifs. The colour options are endless and I could just imagine how beautiful they would all be.
The pattern uses the tapestry crochet technique; which is basically working with two or more colour strands of yarn to create a motif or visual image on a fabric. Due to the repetitive nature of the pattern, following the graph will be much easier and less distracting. The pattern is in 4 sizes, from toddler to adult. You will find the graph for Teen and Adult sizes in the AD-Free PDF here.
The pattern is done in different multiples for the different sizes. Only the Child and Adult sizes use the same multiples. So all you need do is start with the right number of chains before joining and working in the round. The graph shows where to begin, the middle ( which you will repeat ) till you get to the end. Also, it is all done in the Back Loop Only except for the first 2 and last 2 rounds.
Keep in mind, because the Single Crochet stitch is used, the ear warmer is going to be snug at first but will stretch after use. Or you could stretch it out between your palms before wearing (that’s what I did).
Useful Tips (P.S- colours and yarn refer to the same thing here)
The Yarn:
In this pattern, the yarn used is Alize Cotton Gold plus, a worsted weight yarn that’s 55% cotton and 45% acrylic. This is a great yarn for projects like this because they won’t stretch out of shape. The acrylic kinda balances the cotton in a good way. I found a likely good substitute Phildar Aviso, as they have the same fiber content and similar weight. If you take this up, make sure to match the gauge.
I know, it looks like you’ll be needing a lot of yarn. But this headband was made with most of the leftover yarn I had from the same brand (and I’ve still got left overs from the left overs. haha).
It’s ok if you sell items you made using LM patterns. And I’d really love it if you mentioned it was from LM.
And please, do not sell or mass produce LM patterns- (the only exception is if you are donating the handmade items to charity)
Thanks. You can read more on LM policy here.
