Looking at the Sweet Colours Crochet Scarf, I am reminded of candies and lollipops. Won’t you agree that these colours are like sweets?

The Sweet Colours Scarf is a drapey and airy accessory that adds colour to your ensemble. And because it uses a super fine weight yarn, it does not weigh down when worn. It can also double as a wrap you can wear on breezy summer evenings and for walks.
I started making these rounds sometime in April and had an entirely different design in mind. It did not take long to realise this was not going to be a quick project, especially as I began to change my mind as I made more rounds. So I left them for about a month.
But for some reason, I went back to making more rounds. I started out with green then progressed with pink, yet I still did not know what to make with them. It was only after the 63rd round that it felt right to make it a scarf. The parts are easy to join once you get the flow, and I must say I found joining these rounds therapeutic and fulfilling. Unlike when I joined the parts for the Diagonals Afghan.
Let’s get right to it.
It’s ok if you sell items you made using LM patterns. And I’d really love it if you mentioned it was from LM.
And please, do not sell or mass produce LM patterns- (the only exception is if you are donating the handmade items to charity)
Thanks. You can read more on LM policy here.

Form Magic ring (leave about 5-6 inch tail)
Important tip- carry the tail from your magic ring along and up on rounds 1 & 2. This way, you have less tails to weave in.
Round 1: Ch 1, DC 12 in ring. Join to 1st DC
Round 2: Ch 1, 2DC in each st around. Join to 1st DC
Round 3: Ch 1, DC in 1st st, *Ch 2, skip next st, DC in next st. repeat from * around. End with CH 2, join to 1st DC
Round 4: Ch 1, *4dc in Ch 2 space. Repeat from * around. Join to 1st DC. Break yarn, weave in tails.
Joining
A couple of things to note:
- Use a long tail- about 50 inches long or as long as you can manage without running into tangles. When that tail ends, simply tie another to it and continue from the same point.
- Join the rounds with the wrong side facing up.
- When joining at intersections (the point where the circles meet), pass the needle/yarn around 3 times (for a tight join).
- To move on to another circle, no need to break the yarn, pass through the stitches to get to the next point of joining. See photo 2
- Join the circles in between the 4DC sets. There are 12 DC sets around each circle.
- When joining the first 3 rows, the number of DC sets on each circle in the intersection is 2. (Take a look at photos 4 and the joining sequence). Same as for the last 3 rows as in photos 6-13.
- From row 4 and onward, the number of DC sets on each circle in the intersections is 3. (See the joining sequence again)
The first 2 rows
Joining Sequence- this may look a bit complicated, but it is quite easy to master once you follow the arrows and continue repeating the sequence for the other rows.
The Last 3 Rows
Edging
Note: start from any side with wrong side facing up.
Photo 1- Row 1
- Join yarn in center of circle, Chain 12, Sl st in center of next circle. The number of DC sets on each circle is 3
For the next circle, Ch 14, Sl st in the center of circle. Now take a look at photo 3, the sl st is made in the center of the 4 DCs. So that’s like having a set of 3 and half DCs on each side of that (green) circle.
Ch 14 again, Sl st in center of next circle. Continue with Ch 12, sl st in center of circle till the last 3 row.
Photo 2- last 3 rows
- Repeat Ch 14, sl st in next circle, Ch 14, Sl st in next circle, Ch 12, sl st in last circle. Turn
Photo 4- Row 2
- Chain 1, (DC 10, sl st, DC 10) in Ch 12 space. Sl st in center of circle (same place as previous sl st)
- *(DC 11, sl st, DC 11) in next Chain 14 space, sl st in next circle. Repeat from* in next Chain 14 space.
- Repeat (DC 10, sl st, DC 10) in all Chain 12 spaces and (DC 11, sl st, DC 11) in the Chain 14 spaces.
Break yarn, weave in tails. Repeat edging on the other side.
Making Tassels- make 2
- Wrap yarn around your palm. For longer tassel use a longer, flat surface like wood or a book
- Pass yarn up and tie together twice.
- Cut the bottom yarn open and wrap yarn around tassel tightly and tie off
- Trim bottom of tassel to be equal
- Tie it to the scarf
And there you have your Sweet Colours Crochet Scarf. What colours will you use?
