The Ruffle Sleeve Crochet Top is as simple as can be with a bit of lush. It could have been just another regular crochet garment, but the sleeves set it apart as a chic design.
As an independent crochet designer, besides doing a lot of mathematics to get right measurements, making sleeves is one of the hardest parts of creating a garment. It makes a lotof difference when the sleeves compliment the body of a garment.
The ruffle sleeve top is easy to wear and style. You can wear it over flowing pants or a skirt, add some accessories like necklace or tie a scarf around the neck.
The Ruffle Sleeve Top uses simple stitching to achieve a pseudo mesh design; which happens by working into between the posts of the double crochet stitches. This stitch deign gives the top some drape, along with the slight shaping you have a garment that flatters your shape.
The top is made from two panels joined together to form the body before working on the sleeves. If you don’t enjoy sewing crochet parts, I can only encourage you to be patient and take your time. The end result will be worth it.
The Yarn
Nako Calico is a smooth, soft and durable yarn. It is an S-on-S plied yarn (read more about that here) with a blend of premium acrylic (50%) and cotton (50%) fibers and comes in a 100gr ball with 245mt.
I really like the yarn because of its smoothness and slightly dense nature, which makes it ideal for both warm and cool weathers, depending on what you want to make. However, the yarn split a couple of times during the course of this project. I am thinking that may be due to my hooks being old, so don’t write it off. Try it out first before you make your conclusions.

JOIN– The RS of your work is RS of the DCs
You will notice that one side of a fabric is not shaped like the opposite side. This was inevitable, but once you sew them together it will shape properly
Lay the Back piece down with RS facing up and the Front piece on top of the back piece with the WS facing up. You should be meticulous about this part so that each front and back row matches.
Starting from the bottom, sew the front and back by (1) going in through the loops of the Ch 2, (2) around through the Ch 2 space and (3) back through the SC row. This means for the DC rows you will sew through twice, amd once for the SC rows.
Sew up to where you have your stitch marker, weave tails, snip yarn.
At the shoulder- with the tails, sew by going under the loops of the HDC stitches in a back and forth manner. Weave tails, snip yarn.
Turn fabric inside out, with RS facing out.
Neckline
From the back, insert yarn in the middle stitch, Ch 1
*2SC in DC row, SC in next, repeat from * to till last st on the row, SC in stitch, Ch 5, Sl st in same st. Ch 1
SC across row till the joined HDC rows (at the shoulder), SC2tog, *2SC in next row, SC in next. Repeat from * down to the corner,
Continue to SC across the front to the next corner, repeat from * up to the joined HDC rows, SC2tog
Continue to SC across the back till the last st, Ch 1, 2SC in DC row, SC in next. Repeat * down the row. Sl st in center st (same place you started).
Sew button on the back opposite the loop.
Sleeves
Here, I use the same method as I did this Short Sleeve Sweater.
Make 2 slip stitches in each DC row. Do this by first going into the space of the stitch, then in the loop of the same stitch.
With 5mm hook, join yarn in center (bottom of sleeve), Ch 1, Sl st in each st around- make 2 slip sts in each DC row. Sl st in center.
With 4mm hook
Round 2: Ch 1, SC in center, SC in back loop of sl st around. Join to 1st SC.
Round 3: Ch 2, 3DC in 1st st, 2DC in next. *3DC in next, 2DC in next. Repeat from * around. Join to 1st st.
Round 4: Ch 2, 2DC in 1st st, DC in next. *2DC in next, DC in next. Repeat from * around. Join to 1st st. snip yarn, weave tails.
Round 5: Ch 2, DC in each st around. For added length, make another round of DC. Snip yarn, weave tails.
