River Gem Crochet Scarf- Free Pattern

The River Gem Crochet Scarf is a project that flows smoothly just as its name suggests. In fact, I did not realise its likeness with a stream/river till my friends on Instagram pointed it out and helped me name it. A big thanks to them. 

The technique used in the River Gem Scarf pattern is called the Gem stitch. As used in this pattern, the DCs are worked into the SCs and vice versa, so it makes a kind of wave (which makes me wonder why it isn’t called the wave stitch. hmm!).

Anyhow, the River Gem Scarf is worked in multiples of 3, with 2 repetitive rows and colour changes. So trust me when I say this is an easy make.

Finished Size:

51″ long and 6.5″ wide

You’ll need:

– 1 skein each Alize cotton gold- worsted weight yarn; 100g/3.5oz, 165mt/180yds; in colors cream and brown
– 5.5 hook
– Needle to weave in ends

Stitches/Abbreviation

SC- single crochet
DC- double crochet
ST- stitch
CH- chain
SKP- skip

Notes:

– Pattern is written in U.S terms
– ch 1 and ch 2 at the beginning of row does not count as a stitch.
– change colour after every 2 rows
– colour A- brown. Colour B- cream

River Gem Crochet Scarf- Free Pattern

Row 1: (with colour A) Ch 151, SC in 2^nd ch from hook, SC in next 2. *DC in 3, SC in 3*. Rep **  to end of row. Ending with DC in 3. Ch 2, turn

Row 2: (starting in same st as ch 2) *DC in 3, SC in next 3*. Rep **  to end of row.  Ending with SC in 3.  Ch 2, turn.

Row 3: (with colour B) *DC in 3, SC in next 3*.  Rep ** across. Ch 1, turn

Row 4: *SC in 3, DC in next 3*. Repeat ** across. Ch 1, turn

Row 5: (with colour A) *SC in 3, DC in next 3*. Repeat ** across. Ch 2, turn

Row 6: *DC in 3, SC in next 3*.  Rep ** across. Ch 2, turn

Rows 7-18: repeat rows 3-6

Adding Fringes:

You will need 36 strips of yarn 14 inches long for each side.

1. Hold 2, pull it through the edge of scarf

2. Pull only two strips through the loop. Pull tight!

3. Take one loop from back and one from front and tie together. That’s it.

And your scarf is done.
