When I got the opportunity to work with LoveCrafts.com to make this project, I was ecstatic and also cautious. Since this was the first time I would receive yarn support from a craft company, I wanted to get it right.
I started out the Red Riding Shawl as a top to be worked top down. Alas, that led to weeks of struggle because I was not familiar with that technique. So, I went back to the drawing board and the Red Riding Shawlette was the result. Another thing I needed this pattern to be was easy, so you will be doing a lot of repetition across the rows.
By now, you should have guessed how I came about the name of this shawlette, but if you haven’t, the colour and little red riding hood inspired the name.
STYLING
This Red Riding Shawlette is different in the way it is styled. You have the front parts which are longer than the back section. This allows the shawlette rest comfortably on your shoulders without slipping off plus you have the option of closing it with the snap fasteners.
The Yarn:
Sirdar Country Style is a 4 ply yarn with a blend of 40% Nylon, 30% Wool and 30% Acrylic. 4 ply is also known as fingering yarn. The yarn has wonderful drape and extra softness after proper stretching/blocking.
I really don’t have much to say about this yarn, as I don’t have much experience with it. And even though I have never worked with a wool blend, I like this yarn.
If you’re not into using wool, the Sirdar Cotton 4 ply can be a good substitute, just check the gauge as a guide.
I truly hope you enjoy making the Red Riding Shawlette as much as I have put my heart into creating it.

Several places, it is stated that this is a free patyern. But when i click to go to see the pattern, it shows that i have to pay to get it. So, is there a link to get it free?

Hello, yes it was a free printable pattern on LoveCrafts for a limited time. It has just been updated on the blog.

Thank you so much for this simple, lightweight shawl pattern. The shoulder shaping will be ideal for elder ladies, because it will stay on their shoulders. I have a cone of lavender acrylic that will be the first one while I get used to the pattern. Just think of the embellishments – flowers around the bottom, ruffles down the front, the ladies in the nursing will be ooh-la-la!
Rose says
You’re welcome. I can imagine how lovely it would look with the embellishments. Thank you for stopping by.

This is so CUTE. I thought with the name it would have a hood. I’m going to have to come up with a way to add one. Thanks for the pattern!!
I completed my first C2C shall, but forgot to take a picture before sending it off to my sister. I’m hoping she’ll have someone send a picture of her in it! I’m almost finished with my second, for another sister. Thank you for that pattern too!
Rose says
I thought about the hood part too, but then it would not have looked as elegant as I intended.
So glad to hear about your C2C shawl, and I’d love to see the photos sometime if you get them.
You’re welcome. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts.
