Don’t you just love slouchy beanies? I was no fan of beanies till I started creating them, and I really love the versatality that slouchy beanies sometimes give.

This slouchy beanie is created for easy wear. Even though a lot of designs shy away from black yarn, I still love that this beanie can easily be worn on any colour of outfit.
Black goes with everything, right?
The beauty of this beanie is the many ways you can wear it. Fold it or roll it up, wear it slouchy or just straight- you choose. Plus, it is gender neutral.
This beanie is made a bit differently. You work into a magic ring, the same technique I used for the Seashell Coasters. However, there is no increasing or decreasing at the ends; just one long row that curves into the ring.
This way you only just need to close the top of the hat by pulling the tail of the ring. Plus, it’s a fun way to use a different approach from the norm.
This pattern is so so easy to customise. All you have to do is determine is how long you want your beanie to be (depending on who you’re making it for) and how wide (once it wraps around the head with a little stretch, it is wide enough).
The Yarn
In this pattern, Alize Cotton Gold plus is used. It is a firm yet soft yarn with a mix of cotton and acrylic fibers. A similar substitute is the Phildar Aviso yarn
To fit (head circ./length)
Adult- 21-23″ at widest part/10 inches
To customise:
Starting chain/ when to stop row
Baby (6-12mths): 29/13.5”
Toddler: 29/15.5”
Child: 33/17”
Teen: 38/18.5
Gauge: 11 rows X 17 HDC sts across= 4X4
You’ll need:
– 1.5 skeins, Alize Cotton Gold plus, 55% cotton, 45% acrylic, 100g/3.53oz, 200mt/361yds or substitute with 3 balls of Phildar Aviso yarn
– 5mm hook
– Needle to weave in ends
Stitches/Abbreviation
SC- single crochet
SL ST- slip stitch
HDC- half double crochet
Special stitch:
Extended HDC– Yarn over, insert hook in stitch, yarn over, pull through one loop, yarn over pull through 3 loops.
Notes:
– Pattern is written in U.S terms
– Ch 1 does not count as a stitch
– The pattern is written for adult size, with adjustment table for smaller sizes
Tips:
– make your SL STs loose to make it easier to work in.
– when working the FLO and BLO, never work into the top 2 loops of the stitch. Rather, make your stithes in the ‘3rd loop’. The 3rd loop is the one at the back or front of the body of the stitch you’re working into (depending on which side of the HDC is facing you)
– you want to make your magic ring wide, also leave a 23 inch long tail, which you will use to close the beanie. Close the ring gradually as you progress.

Closing
Pull tail from magic ring to close, you’llstill notice a gap at the top. You can decide to sew this closed or leave it open for aesthetics (as in the photo).
From the wrong side, sew beanie closed by going under both loops of 1 stitch and back loop of next stitch.
Edging
with wrong side facing out, join yarn from any stitch, SC around. Cut yarn, weave in ends.
Note: The wrong side of the SC will be facing the right side of the beanie.
