Making this vest was so much fun. It was a last minute idea that popped at me, and even though summer is fast ending, I could not let go of the idea- thus creating the Summer-light Vest.
As with most of the garments I’ve designed, this is made in parts that are joined- 3 parts that are joined at 4 places, the sides and the shoulders. Even though the pattern uses a fingering weight or 4ply yarn, it is a fast projects using basic crochet stitches- the Treble and Half Double crochets.

You’ll need:
- Fingering weight or 4ply yarn (550, 550, 650, 700, 700, 850, 850, 900 mtrs). This pattern uses A.B Reyhan yarn, 50g, 138mtrs
- 4 mm hook
- Tapestry needle
- Stitch marker
Stitches/Abbreviation:
- TC- treble crochet
- HDC- half double crochet
- TC3tog- treble crochet decrease across 3 sts
- TC2tog- treble crochet decrease across 2 sts
- SL ST- slip stitch
- CH- chain
- RS- right side
- WS- wrong side
- YO- yarn over
How to:
TC3tog (TC/DTR decrease across 3 sts.)- *YO twice, go into stitch, YO pull out a loop. YO pull through 1st 2 loops, YO pull through next 2 loops. Repeat from * in the next 2 stitches (4 loops now on hook), YO, pull through all loops on hook
TC2tog (TC/DTR decrease across 2 sts.)- *YO twice, go into stitch, YO pull out a loop. YO pull through 1st 2 loops, YO pull through next 2 loops. Repeat from * in the next stitch (3 loops now on hook), YO, pull through all loops on hook.

Free Pattern
BACK
Row 1: Chain 83 (83, 87, 87, 89, 89, 91, 91), HDC in 2nd chain from hook and across. Ch 4, turn
Row 2: (chain 4 stands as 1 TC), TC in next st and each st across. Ch 1, turn
Tip: on HDC rows, work the last HDC into the top of chain 4.
Row 3: HDC in 1st st and each st across.
Row 4- 43, 45, 45, 47, 47, 49, 49, 51: repeat rows 2 and 3. Leave about 15inch tail for sewing. Snip yarn.
RIGHT FRONT PANEL
Note: the front panels are 2 stitches taller than the back panel.
Row 1: Chain 59 (57, 57, 55, 55, 55, 55, 53), TC in 5th chain from hook and into each chain across. Ch 1, turn
Row 2: HDC in 1st st, and each st across. Ch 4, turn
Row 3: TC in next st and each st across. Ch 29 (31, 35, 37, 39, 39, 41, 43), turn
Row 4: skip 1st chain, HDC In next chain and each ch across. Ch 4, turn
Row 5: TC in 1st st, and each st across. Ch 1, turn

LEFT FRONT PANEL
Row 1: loosely, Chain 54 (52, 52, 50, 50, 50, 50, 48), HDC in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across. Ch 4, turn
Row 2: TC in next st, and into each st across till last st, 3TC in last st. Ch 1, turn
Row 3: HDC into each st across. Ch 4, turn
Row 4: TC in next st and into each st across till last st, 3TC in last st, Chain 28 (30, 34, 36, 38, 38, 40, 42). turn
Row 5: HDC into each st across. Ch 4, turn
Row 6: TC in next st and into each st across. Ch 1, turn
Rows 7-14 (16, 16, 18, 18, 20, 20, 22): repeat rows 5 and 6
Row 15 (17, 17, 19, 19, 21, 21, 23): HDC into each st across. Ch 4, turn
Row 16 (18, 18, 20, 20, 22, 22, 24): TC in 56 (54, 54, 52, 52, 52, 52, 50) sts. Ch 1, turn
Row 17 (19, 19, 21, 21, 23, 23, 25): HDC in each st across. Ch 4, turn
Row 18 (20, 20, 22, 22, 24, 24, 26): TC in next st, and into each st across. Snip yarn. Leave 15inch tail for sewing.
BLOCKING– This is optional, but if you want a stretchier piece, blocking the pieces before joining them is a good idea.
SEAM- Match stitch to stitch and seam the sides of the left and right panels to the back panel and the shoulders. Seam from bottom up so that you will have the right number of stitches for the armhole
EDGING
Lay your vest with RS facing out. Join yarn in 1st stitch at botton of right panel
Row 1: Ch 4, TC into each st till curve, TC in side of HDC row, 2TC in side of TC row, TC in next row, 2TC in next row.
TC into each st till last stitch before the back/neck of row, TC2tog in last st and 1st TC row at the back, make another HDC into same row. *HDC in next (HDC) row, 2HDC in next (TC) row. Repeat from * till last row at the back. HDC in last row, TC2tog in same row and 1st st on left panel.
TC into each st till 1st 3TC increase at the curve, 2TC in side of TC row, TC in next HDC row, 2TC in next row, TC in next row, TC into each st across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: HDC into each st across. Snip yarn, weave in tails.
Tip: weave in the tails into the HDC rows.
