Crochet Mimosa Baby Set

I started out crochet making items for babies, and it’s still a favourite project to do. As I thought about the next baby hat and booties set to make, I brainstormed on what stitch to use.

I tried a particular stitch technique about 3 times, but it wasn’t coming together, then I did a chain and slip stitch and ‘ta da’ it clicked. I’d previously made a flower using DCs and chain stitches, you can take a look at the Afro flower.

Coming up with a name for this baby set was bit tough, but I’m thankful to naturalzest on Instagram who suggested I look up the Mimosa Strigillosa plant. When I saw the flower buds, it just felt right!

The Mimosa baby set is one of the cutest and easiest you’ll find out there, and the hat? Oh, so fluffy, squishy and soft. With just regular DC stitches, chains and slip stitches, you’ll create this beauty. I thought I’d also compliment the hat with a set of booties.
The pattern is written for size 0-3 months and 3-6 months old.

It’s ok if you sell items you made using LM patterns. And I’d really love it if you mentioned it was from LM.
And please, do not sell or mass produce LM patterns- (the only exception is if you are donating the items made to charity)

Thanks. You can read more on LM policy here.

For the panels, the easiest way to identify the stitches to be left undone is to count the number of DC2together stitches, add 2 stitches from the right, and 2 stitches from the left.
In this case, there are 5 DC2together, 2 from each side, altogether makes 9.
So, for size -0-3 months, you will be working in 18 stitches and for size 3-6 months, you will work in 21 stitches. See photo for description.

  • I am trying to figure out how the BLO should look but I can't figure out what it looks like to get into the stitch. Can you advise? Thanks.
