This C2C Mesh pictorial is one that will have you thinking, ‘why have I not tried that before?’. It is one of those techniques that gives many possibilites on the outcome of a design.
In this C2C Mesh pictorial we will look at two cool ways to switch up the corner to corner crochet to create an eyecatching mesh and lacy design.
Before we start, you must already know how to do the Corner to Corner Crochet technique. In that tutorial, I show how to make a triangle first, then a square.
In this pictorial, we will work on making a triangle mesh, then turn it into a square. To differentiate between the 2 mesh techniques, I will name the first pictorial, Mesh inside and the second, Mesh around (that sound like a pun).
Let’s begin. Wait, before that
Mesh inside
This mesh technique starts at Row 3. All the sides are made in solid blocks, so the mesh is embedded inside. You can try this stitch on the super lovely C2C Mesh Shawl.
Photo 1- from the second block on row 3, *Chain 4, DC in Ch 3 space, Chain 1, Slip st in next block. Finish with a solid block. Turn
Photo 2- make the increase block, slip st in next block, repeat * as above in the block, slip st in Ch 4 space, repeat *. Finish row with a solid block (as seen in photo 3)
Photo 4- repeat row 4 till desired length and height
Decreasing
Photo 1- when you are reasy to decrease, sl st in last block, turn (as seen in photo 2)
Photo 3- slip st in Ch 1 space, slip st in DC, slip st in Ch 4 space, Ch 3, make solid block
Since we are now decreasing, you will slip stitch at the end of every row to make the next row.
Photo 1 and 2- on the last 2 rows, make solid block in next mesh, Slip st in next block, turn
Photo 3 and 4- slip st across 3 sts, make last block, slip st in next block.
The important thing you need to remember while making the mesh is the Chain 4 as opposed to Chain 3 when making a solid block.
Mesh around
This one is quite straightforward because the stitch technique repetitive all round. A wonderful pattern you can practice this on is the triangle Fortune’s Shawlette by Moogly
1- *Chain 6, DC in 5th chain from hook, Chain 1, DC in last chain. Turn
2- Repeat * again , Sl st in Ch 3 space, repeat *
3 and onward, repeat * till desired row and height
See, it is straightforward. Moogly also has a rectangular wrap pattern in this stitch technique called the Fortune’s Wrap, which will guide you on how to decrease.
If you are already familiar with the Corner to Corner crochet technique, you will not find it difficult. Enjoy practicing your new stitch.
