Autumn Print Hat and Cowl set

The Autumn Print hat and cowl set had been on my to-do list for a very long time. Of course, with a million and one projects swirling in my head, I just got around to making it. 

This hat and cowl set is named after the yarn, and is really cozy. Also, the design and colour tones blend nicely.

Will fit head circumference 20-23 inches

You’ll need:

– Lion Brand Vanna’s choice, worsted weight (85g/133m); acrylic
2 balls in Autumn Print

-5.5 mm hook

-Needle to weave in ends

Abbreviation
FSC- foundation single crochet. See here for tutorial
DC- double crochet
HDC- half double crochet
CH- chain
ST- stitch
SL ST- slip stitch

Notes:

– Pattern is written in U.S terms
– Ch 1 at the beginning of round does not count as a stitch
– Every other chain 1 counts as a stitch
– Ch 2 at beginning and end of round count as a stitches
– Do not make your chains too tight as you will be making stitches into them in the next round

HAT

Form Magic ring

Round 1: HDC 10 in ring. Sl st to 1^st HDC.

Round 2: Ch 2, Skip 1^st st, DC in next st, Ch 1, DC in skipped st. *Ch 1, skip next st, DC in next, Ch 1, DC in skipped st*. Repeat ** around. Sl st in top of Ch 2. (20)

Round 3: Ch 1, HDC in 1^st st, 2HDC in next. *HDC in 1 st, 2 HDC in next*. Repeat ** around. Sl st in 1^st HDC. (30)

Round 4: Ch 2, Skip 2 sts, DC in 3^rd st, DC in 2^nd skipped st. * Ch 1, skip 2 sts, DC in next, DC in 2^nd skipped st*.Repeat ** around. Sl st in top of Ch 2. (40)

Round 5: Ch 1, HDC in 3 sts, 2HDC in next. *HDC in 3 sts, 2 HDC in next*. Repeat ** around. Sl st in 1^st HDC. (50)

Round 6: Ch 2, *Skip 3 sts, DC in next, Ch 1, DC in 3^rd skipped st, Ch 2*. Repeat ** around. Skip last 2 sts, Sl st to top of Ch 2. (60)

Round 7: Ch 1, *HDC in 5, 2 HDC in next*. Repeat ** around. Sl st to 1^st HDC. (70)

Round 8: Ch 1, *skip 3 sts, DC in next, Ch 1, DC in 3^rd skipped st, Ch 1*. Repeat ** around. End with Ch 2, skip last 2 sts. Sl st to top of Ch 2. (70)

Round 9: Ch 1, HDC around. Sl st to 1^st HDC

Rounds 10-19: repeat rounds 8 and 9

 

COWL

Round 1: FHDC 82. Join to 1^st HDC to form circle

Round 2: *Ch 2, Skip 3 sts, DC in next, Ch 1, DC in 3^rd skipped st, Ch 1*. Repeat ** around. Skip last 2 sts, end with Ch 2. Sl st to top of Ch 2

Round 3: Ch 1, HDC in 1^st st. HDC around.

Rounds 4-7: repeat rounds 2 and 3

Turn to work backward

Round 8: Ch 1, HDC around. Sl st to 1^st HDC

Rounds 9: *Ch 2, Skip 3 sts, DC in next, Ch 1, DC in 3^rd skipped st, Ch 1*. Repeat ** around. Skip last 2 sts, end with Ch 2. Sl st to top of Ch 2

Rounds 10-14: repeat rounds 8 and 9

Break yarn, weave in ends.
