Like some of the patterns on loopinglymade.com, this Lapghan is inspired by life and faith. I mean, there is so much that I see and experience every day that find their way into my designs. Sometimes it is a personal experience and sometimes it is just art.

The Hope C2C Lapghan is a heartfelt design filled with wishes for anyone who uses it. This is because Hope is that one thing that keeps you going. When the chips are down and you just don’t know ‘how’, hope sustains you.

The Hope C2C Lapghan is a testament of that little flickering light that won’t die out. And right in the middle of Hope is your heart holding on to the belief that ‘it won’t always be like this. It is going to get better’.

Making the C2C

Personally, I like to eliminate as much space as possible when using the corner to corner crochet technique. Unless I specifically want it to look spacey and airy, like in the C2C Mesh shawl. So this pattern follows the formula ch 5/2.

The subtle mesh stitch in the middle of the heart gives a unique look to the pattern. Like there are strings attached to the heart, and the only way those strings go is when a person ceases to exist. This lapghan is so wonderfully soft and warm. I’m certain this will be a well loved item for the owner or recipient.

The Yarn

I’m sure Caron Simply Soft is a household name that most crocheters are familiar with. True to its name it is soft, and has a subtle sheen to it. It is an aran weight yarn that comes in a 170gr ball with 315 yards.

In case you’re wondering, Aran weight is just a tad bulkier than worsted weight medium 4 yarn. To me though, the yarn feels like a regular worsted weight, I made this Short Sleeve Sweater with Aran yarn, so I can tell the major difference.

If you are new to the C2C Mesh technique, please see the C2C Mesh tutorial before you proceed further.

Important Tips:

• I recommend dropping the yarn on one part of the body. That is, whenever you want to change colours, regardless of what side you are working on drop the yarn on the side that will be the wrong side of the Lapghan. This way, you know you are weaving in tails from only one side of your work.

• this pattern uses the Chain 5/2 formula, NOT Chain 6/3. So the Mesh will be Chain 3, DC, Ch 1.

Finished Size: 39.5 by 48 inches after blocking

Gauge: 5 blocks= 4 inches

You’ll need:

• 8 balls worsted weight, medium 4 yarn.  (this pattern uses Caron Simply Soft; 170g/6 oz , 288 mtrs/315 yds). Colours- Black- 5 balls, White- 2 balls, Red- 1 ball.
• 5.5 mm hook
• Tapestry needle

Stitches/Abbreviation

• SC- single crochet
• TC- treble crochet
• CH- chain
• SL ST- slip stitch

Notes:

• Pattern is written in U.S terms
• Ch 1 does not count as a stitch

Body

Get the chart here

Border

With black, join yarn in between blocks near the corner,

Round 1: Ch 1, SC in same space, *Ch 2 over block, SC in-between blocks repeat from * to the last block, Ch 2, SC in corner of block. Continue to repeat from * all around making SC in the stitch in the corner. Join to 1^st SC with White.

Round 2: Ch 1, *2 SC in each ch 2 spaces across, in corner SC, [SC, ch 2, SC]. Repeat from * around. Join to 1^st SC

Rounds 3&4: repeat round 2. End round 4 by joining with Red. Ch 1, turn

Round 5: repeat round 2. End round by joining with black. Ch 3, turn

Round 6: TC in same st., *TC in next st and across, in Ch 2 corner, [3TC , ch 1, 3TC]. Repeat from * around. End round by joining with Red. Ch 1, turn

Round 7: repeat round 2. End round by joining with white. Ch 1, turn

Rounds 8-10: repeat round 2. Snip yarn, weave in tails

Block your blanket.
