Ever since I designed the C2C Reversible Prayer Wrap and the positive feedback I received, I have thought about designing another wrap that has a similar element where the arms can pass through the wrap without being exposed.

This time, I decided to add a little extra- the beads. Sometimes the hands might get fidgety, so the beads are great to play with.

The Newness Prayer Wrap is really easy to make, with two stitch repeats only. What you need to pay attention to is the chains so that you do not skip any or add more than required.

This is the kind of pattern that you may refer to as ‘mindless’. You could watch your favourite show or just relax while making it plus say a little prayer as well.

The Yarn

When it comes to yarn shopping, I usually do 99 percent of my purchases in store. Hardly do I buy yarn online until I found LoveCrafts. I can honestly tell you I’ve loved buiyng yarn from them and they have such a great selection of yarns plus they’re always having sales for goodness sake; which makes me wonder how they actually make money, ha!

The Hayfield Bonus DK yarn is the type of yarn to always have in your stash. You know, that yarn that you can make almost anything with. Even for an inexpensive acrylic yarn, it is soft to touch and non itchy. It is one of the best big ball yarn (for lack of a better description, haha) I have seen out there. It comes in a big 100gr ball with 306 yds (280m).

For best result you will need to block your wrap once it is finished. What you’ll get is a soft, drapey fabric that is warm and yet comfortably light.

How Long will it take to make the Newness Prayer Wrap?

I really cannot give specifics, but I’d say it would take the same amount of time it took me to make the C2C prayer wrap. This was a project I had to create time for because I was on holiday and had little time for crafting. I constantly worked on this project throughout the time I was away, sometimes I could steal a few minutes in two to three days.

This is a mindless pattern that I’m sure will not take more than 3 weeks if you dedicate time to it.

Size: 22″ tall/ 64.5″ wide

Gauge: 9 HDC2tog sts across/12 rows= 4”

You’ll need:

• Light/DK weight yarn (5 balls- about 1,530yds). (This pattern uses Hayfield Bonus DK, colours- Emerald and Lime). Using a second colour is optional. Should you decide to use 2 colours, you’ll need 4 balls main colour, 1 ball contrast colour.
• 20 pieces small sized beads that can string on the yarn
• 5 mm hook
• Tapestry needle

• HDC2tog- half double crochet 2 together
• SC- single crochet
• CH- chain
• SL ST- slip stitch

Notes:

• Pattern written in U.S terms
• Each Chain 1 between the HDC2tog counts as a stitch

Row 1: HDC in 2^nd ch from hook, *HDC2tog in next 2 chains, Ch 1, skip 1 ch,. Repeat from * to last ch, do not skip, HDC in last ch. Turn

Row 2: Ch 2 (stands as 1^st HDC here and throughout the pattern), HDC2tog in 1^st ch 1space and next, Ch 1. *HDC2tog in same chain space and next, Ch 1. Repeat from * till last st, HDC in top in last st. Turn

Row 3: repeat row 2, HDC in top of Ch 2. Turn

Row 4: repeat row 2, HDC in last st. Turn

Row 5: Ch 3, skp 1^st st and next, HDC in next, *Ch 1, skp 1 st, HDC in next. Repeat from * till last st, Ch 2, sl st in top of last st. Turn

Row 6: sl st along side of Ch 2, sl st in top of Ch 1, Ch 3, HDC in next Ch 1 space, Ch 1, skp 1 st. *HDC in next space, Ch 1, skp 1 st . repeat from * till last chain space, HDC in space, Ch 2, sl st in top of ch 2. Turn

Rows 7 & 8: repeat row 6

Note: the last HDC2tog on Row 9 should end in the Ch 3 space.

Row 9: Ch 2, HDC2tog in same space and next, Ch 1. *HDC2tog in same space and next, Ch 1. Repeat from * to last chain space, HDC in top of chain 2. Turn .

Row 10: Ch 2, HDC2tog in 1^st space and next, Ch 1. *HDC2tog in same space and next, Ch 1. Repeat from * to last st, HDC in top of ch 2

Rows 11 & 12: repeat row 10

Rows 13-16: repeat rows 5-8

Rows 17-20: repeat rows 9-12

Rows 21-24: repeat rows 5-8

Note: The next 8 rows are in contrast colour

Row 25: join contrast yarn, Ch 2, HDC2tog in same space and next, Ch 1. *HDC2tog in same space and next, Ch 1. Repeat from * to last chain space, HDC in top of chain 2. Turn

Rows 26-32: Ch 2, HDC2tog in 1^st space and next, Ch 1. *HDC2tog in same space and next, Ch 1. Repeat from * to last st, HDC in top of ch 2

Rows 33-36: repeat rows 5-8

Rows 37-44: repeat rows 25-32 (with contrast colour)

Rows 45-48: repeat rows 5-8

Rows 49-52: repeat rows 9-12

Tip: mark the points for the armholes. Count 23 sts from the side you are now starting on, and 42 sts from the left side, mark them.

Row 53: Ch 3, skp 1^st st and next, HDC in next, *Ch 1, skp 1 st, HDC in next. Repeat from * till you have 12 HDCs (includes the Ch 3 sapce at the beginning), chain 19, skip 19 sts last st, Continue to repeat from * till the next point for the armhole. Ch 19, skip 19 sts , continue stitching across to last st. Turn

Tip: row 54 might be tricky, please pay attention to the chains

Rows 54-56: repeat row 6-8

Rows 57-60: repeat rows 9-12

Row 61-64: repeat rows 5-8

Rows 65-68: repeat rows 9-12. Break yarn, weave in tails.

Edging– with beads

If you have trouble stringing the beads and dropping them with the SC stitch, this pattern could guide you.

String 20beads, start on any side

Join yarn in last stitch, ch 1, SC with bead, SC in same st, SC in next 6 rows, SC with bead in next, (SC in next 7 rows, SC with bead in next) repeat twice.

Over contrast colour- SC in 8, SC with bead in next, SC in 2, SC with bead in next, SC in 8, SC with bead in next

SC in 7, SC with bead in next, SC in 7, SC with bead in next, SC in 6, SC last row, SC with bead in same st. snip yarn, weave in tails.
