Have you ever thought of How to Make T-shirt Yarn? There is no limit to what materials can be turned into a craft piece. Case in point the Crochet T-shirt rag rug I recently made.
There are many advantages to upcycling a material. Not only are we re-using and making less mess on the earth, these upcycled projects usully cost little to nothing to make.
They’re also a way to get children active with crafts, which in turn also has its benefits for them in the long run.
This quick tutorial shows how to make t-shirt yarn from your old Tees so you can make all the awesome crafty pieces your heart desires. Let’s go.
Tutorial
1.Lay out the t-shirt and cut the upper part with the armhole off, since we won’t be needing that part
2. Start cutting from one edge to the next, but not totally to the end
3. Spread the middle part and start cutting each strip diagonally
You’ll have this pile
4. Now, pull the strips along the blunt edge of the scissors. You could also use a spoon handle. This will make the t-shirt stretch and curl/curve, which aids in better handling while making your stitches.
And there you have your t-shirt yarn. So don’t go throwing away those old Tees. Upcycle ’em.
