Though I set out to make a baby doll, the more I look at the finished doll, the more I think to call it Grandma doll, haha. Really, does it not look like a grandma doll?
This is a very good project for left over yarn. The yarn I used for this doll was actually what was left over from the Simple Waves Baby Blanket I made a while back, and since there’s a baby shower invite on my calender in the coming weeks, it occured to me to use it to create something soft and cuddly for the little one.
I was all done and ready to publish this pattern without the arms when I had the nagging feeling to make arms for them, so I had to do them. I think the arms add personality to the doll. What do you think?
As mentioned above, this is a very beginner friendly pattern that won’t take a lot of time. Without further ado, let’s make this soft, cuddly ‘grandma’ doll.

I'm trying to do this doll for my great-granddaughter, but I'm stuck on row 1 - not sure what you mean by turn upside down. Also If I start with 11 chains, where do stitches 9-22 come in?
Thanks for your help
Hello Sharen, sorry you're stuck on this. By upside down I mean ndon't turn- work on the opposite side of the stitches you just made. It is not Rows 9-22.
22 is the number of stitches you will have after making the first round. Im real sorry you found that confusing.
LOVE this doll!
For the person who needs a different size doll, it seems to me that using worsted (or sport) yarn with a correspondingly smaller hook would make a smaller size Grandma. Just a thought.
Yes, you're right, Brenda. A smaller hook equals a smaller doll. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts.
Could you tell me the finished size of the doll? Our Women's Club is making dolls to go to Drs. Without Borders for their cleft palate patients. I need dolls around six inches tall, as they will have to be mailed to several other countries. I particularly like the sewn on facial features. There's no way of knowing the age of the patients and I would worry about choking hazards with glued on features. I love the grandma look! I think young children alone in a hospital would welcome the security grandmas evoke.
The doll is about 10.5" tall/ 3.2" wide. This doll seems to be taller than what you want, but it will could still serve to bring joy to someone. Itis great your group of women is doing things to make other people's lives a little better. Thank you for stopping by.
She's gorgeous, and obviously a grandma, but if you added wings, she would make a delightful angel - just a thought xxxx
oooooooh! Wings, haha I never even saw that. Yes, definitely a grandma. Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts.
